Susan came to the practice of law with experience as a Human Resources and Labor Relations Director. She represents public and private employers in all areas of employment, personnel and labor law including collective bargaining, personnel policies and handbooks, discrimination and harassment, union avoidance, strike planning, performance evaluation systems, discipline and discharge, and grievance arbitration. Susan regularly advises clients on issues arising under the Wisconsin and Federal FMLA laws.

She has successfully defended employers against unfair labor and prohibited practice charges, discrimination charges, and wage and hour claims. Susan also defends employers in litigation brought in the state and federal courts. Susan has a wealth of experience in investigating claims of harassment and discrimination and then defending those cases before the courts and administrative agencies. Susan does more than provide technical legal answers; she draws on her experience to provide practical advice to solve real problems.

Q: What is your favorite lawyer movie and why?

A: “To Kill A Mockingbird.” The acting was brilliant. The movie is filled with warmth and humor while dealing with serious issues. Atticus Finch was an attorney with remarkable integrit


Q: What do you like to do outside of work?

A: Reading, singing, traveling and getting together with friends and family.


Q: Do you have children? Tell us about them.

A: One daughter, Katie. She’s a swimmer, snow boarder, violinist, cellist and pianist. She is my pride and joy.


Q: What music would we find on your playlist?

A: Keb Mo and Bette Midler – not together, but that would be something.


Q: What is your most memorable career moment?

A: Arguing before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals; being peppered with questions which used almost all of my alotted time, rising for rebuttal and being told I had 40 seconds remaining. I said, “In that case I will be brief.” To which Justice Posner replied, “Attorney Love, the Court is feeling generous today. Take a full minute.”


Q: What is your favorite vacation destination and why?

A: My mom’s cottage in Northern Michigan and Florence, Italy. Both are peaceful, beautiful and have fabulous food.


Q: What was your first job?

A: Zookeeper at a children’s zoo. Boy, do I have stories to tell.
