June 29, 2016 – A Legacy of Leadership: Dan Vliet Completes Service as Rotary Club of Milwaukee President, Receives Accolades for Legal Practice
WAUKESHA, WI (June 29, 2016) – Buelow Vetter Buikema Olson & Vliet Shareholder, Dan Vliet, was honored for his service as the president of the Rotary Club of Milwaukee during a luncheon on Tuesday, June 28 at the War Memorial Center in Milwaukee. In his farewell address, Vliet recapped several highlights from the past year, including The Rotary Club of Milwaukee serving as the host for the 2015 Rotary Club Large Conference, members traveling to Bangladesh as part of a team providing cleft palate surgery in partnership with Alliance for Smiles, partnering with Engineers Without Borders to visit local bridge and school projects supported by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee in Guatemala. Additionally, Vliet recalled local events like the Rotary Golf Classic, the Rotary Scholarship Program – providing financial support and mentoring for 24 Milwaukee students, improvements to Johnsons Park, ongoing involvement with the Oliver Wendell Holmes School and Brown Street Academy, two book distributions at 12 MPS schools and other positive changes made by Rotary Club of Milwaukee members. “In celebrating Dan’s year as our club President, three key words come to mind: Leadership, Inspiration and Service,” said Past President, John Bernaden, who served as emcee of Tuesday’s changing of the guard ceremony. Fellow Rotarians also saluted Vliet for his service, including Nancy Sennett who stated, “Dan has been a superb leader of the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, where leaders make a difference. His good judgment, skill in turning plans into actions and his ability to do all with good humor have enhanced the Club’s impact in our local and global communities. Thanks, Dan for a great year!” “Dan came into the presidency well prepared for a year that made a difference in the history of the Club. He sees himself as a leader among leaders and his personal leadership style fits perfectly with that concept. Dan continuously found ways to engage and encourage members to contribute to the Club’s efforts by focusing on their strengths and interests,” added Joe Caruso.
Inducted in The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, Named a Wisconsin Super Lawyer Vliet was recently inducted as a fellow to The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers – the highest recognition by one’s colleagues of sustained outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence. The College was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of The Section of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association, and operates as a free-standing organization recognizing those who, by long and outstanding service, have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field. The College was the vision of a number of Fellows, with the idea to further establish the profession in all its aspects as one uniquely important to the world of labor and employment law, individual rights, collective bargaining and dispute resolution. Vliet was nominated by colleagues Tim Hawks and Dan Nielsen, who in their nomination documents shared a high opinion of Vliet’s expertise, integrity and collegiality in labor and employment law, as well as his contributions to the field through speaking at seminars and his service to the community. Additionally, Vliet was recently named as a Wisconsin Super Lawyer by the Thomson Reuters lawyer rating service that lists outstanding attorney who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. 2016 marks the ninth time that Vliet has been selected to Super Lawyers in the areas of Employment & Labor and Employment Litigation: Defense. “Our firm is exceptionally fortunate to have Dan as a shareholder, partner, colleague and friend,” said Mary Hubacher, Chair of Buelow Vetter Buikema Olson and Vliet. “We congratulate Dan on these well-deserved achievements and salute his service and commitment to our community.”
